For many people, tropical flowers are often whimsical, seductive and alien creatures. Some of them look more like insects or tiny animals. Orchids have long been associated with obsessive collectors, hidden fortunes and erudite amateur botanists. New species are still being discovered and named while at the same time we can find numerous varieties for sale at local supermarkets. I have long been intrigued by their beauty and mystery. For me and for many of the florists whom I work with at FlowerSchool New York, tropical flowers have always been the exotic "other."
