Author Biography

Joseph Brodsky was born in Leningrad in 1940 and emigrated to the United States in 1972. He serves as Andrew Mellon Professor of Literature at Mount Holyoke College. He was named the recipient of a MacArthur Foundation grant in 1981, won the National Book Critics Circle Award for criticism for Less Than One in 1986, and was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1987. In 1991 and 1992 he served as Poet Laureate of the United States
