Summary

His last game was more than seventy years ago, but Babe Ruth remains an American icon--the first superstar of sports. Named the Greatest Baseball Player of the Twentieth Century by the sports media, George Herman Ruth epitomizes the best of baseball history and is still one of the most beloved sports heroes of all time. Babe's life and career are given a fresh look in The Babe Book, which tells his story through this unique collection of engaging anecdotes from the people who knew him and studied him--ballplayers, teammates, managers, sportswriters, radio announcers, historians, family, and friends. Accompanyingthis unique group of memories and amazing statistics is a special selection of nearly one hundred photographs of memorabilia from the exclusive archives of The Babe Ruth Birthplace Museum in Baltimore, Maryland. Babe Ruth's daughter Julia Ruth Stevens adds a personal note in the book's foreword. Babe's personality and competitive spirit vividly come to life throughout the variety of comments and descriptions in The Babe Book. You will feel the force of his swing, share in his jovial charisma, be touched by his fondness for children, laugh at his caustic humor, and be entertained by his endless energy. This book appeals to ardent baseball aficionados as well as casual sports fan--it's truly a captivating look at the Sultan of Swat.
